For the past few years, the Temple family has joined Samaritan’s Purse in what we call Operation Christmas Child. The stated mission of Operation Christmas Child is “to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.” Individually, we pack small shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items, toys, and personal notes that will be delivered to children around the world. Small, simple shoeboxes designed for eternal impact. It doesn’t seem possible, does it? Well, let me assure you that it is possible!

Take the young Tech student as an example. Several months ago, she approached me after our morning worship service and inquired how I knew her story. Somewhat confused, I asked her to elaborate. She recounted the words I had shared about a young lady who had received such a shoebox while she was in an overseas orphanage and how the Lord had made a way for her to study in the United States. Furthermore, she noted how God had moved upon that young lady’s heart to continue the cycle of ministry by packing a box herself. Then she looked at me and said, “That is my story.” That conversation was one of the most humbling and encouraging moments of my life. Before me was a “flesh and blood” example of a life that was touched. And what’s more, that Sunday I met five other shoebox recipients who were connected with our church! I’ll never forget that, and I’ll never stop sharing its significance.

I say it again. Small, simple shoeboxes can have an eternal impact. And thanks to your faithfulness, we are sending hundreds of such ministry boxes to children all over the globe. If you want to add to this number, please drop your box off by this Sunday. Then stop and pray that our Lord will direct these tangible expressions of the Gospel to the right child at the right moment! The Holy Spirit’s empowerment can and will change lives! We have witnessed it ourselves! Looking forward to seeing you Sunday!
