Well, we are officially back in the swing of things! I’m not sure about your household, but my family has returned to our routine of school, extracurricular activities, etc. And yes, it was somewhat difficult. In truth, Leslie had to pry us all out of bed on Monday morning . . . and Tuesday morning . . . and . . . ! But as tough as it is to get past the holidays, I am especially thankful for a New Year with new opportunities. And oh, the open doors before us! God is being faithful by sending us visitors each week, by renewing His people here, and by calling people to follow Him through water baptism! I can sense His new work among us. My prayer is that we will be faithful with these opportunities and will invite others to join us in our faith community.

Of course, I believe our upcoming addition to our leadership team will assist us greatly in our efforts to reach more people—especially young adults—with the Gospel. On Sunday, we will vote on Jacob Ambrose as our potential Minister to Young Adults. Jacob is a graduate of Louisiana Tech (Go Dawgs!), where he received a B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education. After graduation, he taught at North Desoto High School for three years. Ministry though, has certainly been a priority for him.  While at Tech, he was very active with our temple-tech College Ministry here and even served as one of our interns. Also, Jacob took on a part-time role at his home church, Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport, while maintaining his teaching duties at North Desoto. Summer Grove called him to a full-time position in 2015 as their Modern Worship Leader and Compassion House Director. As such, he leads the Modern Worship Service, and he oversees approximately 160 volunteers to serve the community with food and clothing distribution. Currently, he is pursuing his Master of Arts from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (Although I hope he will transfer to a much better institution like New Orleans!).

Jacob is married to Amanda, and they have two children: Lyla (2 years old) and Joshua (2 months old). As we discussed this position with Jacob and Amanda, it became apparent that God had turned their hearts toward a concentration in young adult ministry and discipleship. In many ways, they are already participating in such work—even though that might not be in his current job description at Summer Grove. No doubt, our search committee (David Robinson, chair; Scott Felder; Craig Moss; Lindsey Purvis; Meredith Sanders; Sonja Walker; and Jed Walpole) unanimously agree that God is calling the Ambroses to serve here with us. And I concur! Jacob, along with Amanda (who is definitely part of the team), has all the qualities to lead our Young Adult Ministry and our Singles Ministry to a greater height. In addition, he can help us as we improve our first impression ministry with guests who attend with us.

I hope that you will come out to the Family Life Center on Saturday morning, January 12, at 10 a.m. and meet this wonderful family. I’m convinced you are going to come to love them in the days ahead as we serve together.

God is doing great things in our midst! Do you believe it? I pray you do! Come see for yourself this Sunday. See you then!
