Our Lord is in the business of doing new things. Consider for a moment some of the verses that remind us of this reality:
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore, I hope in Him!’” (Lamentations 3:22-24 NKJV).
“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18-19 NKJV).
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV).
Just reading through these Scriptures should make us erupt in praise and adoration of Who He is!! Our God takes the old circumstances, the old personalities, the old challenges, and the old desires and transforms them into new, exciting kingdom opportunities for us. Only He has such power to perform such a wondrous feat!
With the new year, I’m confident that Christ is going to give us a fresh commitment to His vison while empowering us to achieve even greater work for the gospel. Certainly, we will have new leadership as our newly-elected deacons take upon their roles on the Deacons’ Council. In particular, I look forward to gathering with you on Sunday, January 6, at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary to ordain Gabe Hogan to the deacon ministry. I hope you will mark your calendar and join us for this celebration as we set aside Gabe, Amy, and their kids to this new work. In addition, you will note in our announcements that we are preparing to present a candidate for our Minister to Young Adults position on Sunday, January 13. I’ll share more about this young man and his family next week as the committee makes its informational presentation on Wednesday, January 9, at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Needless to say, I am very excited about this couple becoming a part of our leadership team!
This year is going to be full of ministry opportunities . . . Upward Basketball, Beach Reach, WinShape, Princess & Warrior Weekend, The Springs, Habitat for Humanity, Puerto Rico short-term trips, Calgary short-term trips, East Asia short-term trips, South Asia short-term trips, etc. You have been faithful in the past! You always step up to go, give, and pray! (I’m still giving thanks that we were able to exceed our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal with $175,969.30) And I look forward to serving with you in the new moments of mission the Lord gives us in 2019. See you Sunday as we start the year off right together in worship!
