Over the past few months, both of our ministerial search committees have been working hard to follow the Lord’s leadership in finding the right staff members to join our leadership team. It has been my joy to meet with them and discuss His vision for us and our ministry. In each case, we have reviewed resumes, researched prospective ministers, questioned such candidates, and shared our own perspectives. And of course, the whole adventure has been grounded in faith and expectation!

As already publicized, our Associate Minister of Music Search Committee believes it has completed the necessary steps in the process up to this point and is bringing a formal recommendation to us this Sunday, October 28, in all Morning Worship Services. The search committee (made up of Dustin Whitlock, Chairman; Alicia Ball; Denise Cox; Don Hogan; Ben Humphries; Ty Lolley; and Susan Williams) is unanimously proposing that we elect Zachary Husser as our next Associate Minister of Music. Zach earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Southeastern Louisiana University and is currently working on a Master of Divinity (with a concentration in Church Music) at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently serving as Minister of Worship and Youth at Westside Baptist Church in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Moreover, he is a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management, where he has twice been recognized as “Intern of the Year” for all of Louisiana and Mississippi.  Zach plans to marry Marissa Burridge on November 10.  A lot of things are happening in this young man’s life!

So, what will Zach do if elected by you?  I am proud you asked!  I would say he is going to do A LOT! In addition to preparing and leading the gathering Worship Services on Sunday morning, he is also responsible for preparing/facilitating Youth Wednesday Night Worship  on Wednesday night and Midweek, a college worship service on Wednesday as well. Think of that! This job involves working with and rehearsing three different bands from three different generations for three different worship services (counting the gathering worship services as one worship set on Sunday). Certainly, I have not mentioned other responsibilities such as leadership of the Celebration Choir, temple-tech Choir, etc., nor I have listed other ministerial duties (e.g. hospital visitation) that are entailed in this position.

I hope you got a chance to hear the committee’s heart this past Wednesday night, but if you did not, feel free to visit with any of us that went through the process about your questions/comments. Also, take a few minutes on Saturday to run by and meet Zach and Marissa. (They will be in the Family Life Center from 2-3 pm.) Lastly, pray for them and for us as a church as we seek to follow God’s will in this matter. These are exciting days of which we can be a part! See you Sunday!
